TMG strengthens position in e-commerce market
Telegraaf Media Groep (TMG) today made an important step towards further strengthening its position in the growing e-commerce market by acquiring the remaining 40% of the shares in GroupDeal BV. TMG is now full owner of GroupDeal BV. The acquisition of the remaining shares is funded from TMG’s own resources.
This acquisition is in line with TMG’s strategy of responding more to consumer preferences as regards their use of both online and offline channels.With 1.7 million users, GroupDeal (www.groupdeal.nl) has a top-3 position in online daily deals in the Netherlands. GroupDeal is the largest player of Dutch origin in this market. The platform offers its users special high-discount deals every day. Every deal is promoted via email and social networks.
GroupDeal combines revenue growth with a healthy return. By integrating the activities of GroupDeal and De Telegraaf’s online shop (www.telegraafshop.nl) TMG expects it will be able to improve the combined result even further and strengthen its position in the growing e commerce market. Bundling the activities of GroupDeal and De Telegraaf’s online shop also implies broader online reach for advertisers.
Paul Montagne, founder and manager of GroupDeal, will stay on. He will remain in charge of GroupDeal and will also take on management of De Telegraaf’s online shop. In addition, he will focus on joining the forces of this online shop and GroupDeal.
GroupDeal was launched at the beginning of 2010 and TMG took a 40% stake in the company in that year. That interest was expanded to 60% in January 2012. Now TMG has become full owner.
